I chose ‘Niqaab’ as my ‘Freedom’, says Khadija, A.R Rahman’s Daughter!

Mumbai: Earlier this week, at a celebration of 10 years of Slumdog Millionarie, A.R Rehman’s daughter was called upon the stage and speak about his father’s journey and his achievements.

Gracefully dressed in a Red and Black Sari along with a ‘Niqaab’ was brutally criticized by the trolls, indicting A.R Rahman for allegedly forcing his ‘Daughter’ on wearing ‘Niqaab’.

In response to the allegations made against her father, Khadija left a note on Instagram saying,

“The recent conversation of myself on stage with my dad has been doing the rounds, although I didn’t expect such an overwhelming response. However, there were certain comments which said that this attire is being forced by my dad and that he has double standards. I would like to say that the attire I wear or the choices I make in my life does not have anything to do with my parents. The veil has been my personal choice with complete acceptance and honour.”

She made it clear that her family and her father do not believe in having ‘double standards’, wearing hijab and observing ‘niqaab’ is her freedom of choice.

The last excerpt of her post says, “I’m a sane mature adult who knows to make my choices in life. Any human being has a choice to wear or do what he/she wants and that’s what I’ve been doing. Hence, kindly don’t make your own judgements without understanding the exact situation.” #FreedomOfChoice

Six National Awards, Two Grammy and Two Oscars winner, the legendary A.R Rahman seems to stand tall with her daughter. He responded to the soaring remarks by putting up a picture of his daughters and wife with Nita Ambani.

The picture in the tweet clearly shows that he has put no obligations on his family’s women. Wife wearing a dupatta, Khadija wearing a ‘niqaab’ and the youngest one is not covering at all.
