Karachi: After what feels like a decade, Captain Marvel finally released in Pakistan on April 5th closely lined up with much awaited Avengers: Endgame luckily landing on April 26th, so to all the Marvel fans in Pakistan, it’s time to spend some of your savings (chuckles).
Alert: Before I start reviewing the movie, I would suggest all the viewers to choose the best cinema for this enthralling superhero flick. I had a painful experience at the Neuplex DHA but let’s keep my rant as the last thing.
The Movie Review
Apart from being one of the craziest Marvel fans, and have been collecting ‘all kinda superhero’ stuff since childhood, I’m posting my honest reviews here. This 10+ movie – “Captain Marvel” is thy far one of the best origins movie that you can confidently watch with your family without any doubt or hesitation. Luckily, no obnoxious scenes, no lovemaking!
Thrilling right from the start, it’s obvious why Kevin Feige (Marvel’s Producer) been saving the best for the last because Captain Marvel, played by Academy Award winner Brie Larson, seems to be the best one to stand against Thanos and undo all the damage he did in Infinity War; but that’s yet to be witnessed.
The movie features an amazing friendship between Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch) and Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. Late in Pakistan, the movie actually released worldwide on the International Women’s Day because the very essence is on women empowerment and the trouble women face when they try competing with their male counterpart. It encourages the need for equipping women with the right knowledge, power and position for the better world ahead.
As a feminist tale, it’s essentially important to absorb than just
When we stop looking for approval, we can become literally godlike.– a dialogue from the movie.
Undoubtedly, some of the dialogues are worth remembering for life. With a crisp narrative and powerful discourse, this movie is no near to any regular comic stunt; it’s an explicitly feminist idolisation and gender elevation depiction.
The story is being set up in the 90s when Carol Danvers/Vers/Captain Marvel crashes on Earth after escaping the Skrulls and beating them up good. So get ready to take a ride back in the good old days with some amazing 90s stuff that we probably miss now.
The best part which really got me all shaking is when Carol/Marvel breaks free from the Kree device that kept her from using her superpowers to the fullest. The moment she stood up with her full might, the music, the special effects, the scene, Brie Larson, all just accompanied each other perfectly.
Message to the Fans
On IMDB, I rated the movie with all 10-stars but that’s obviously a personal choice. For those who haven’t seen the movie yet, “You don’t know what you’re missing” 🙂 I’ll probably re-watch it in the coming week.
Captain Marvel has become a worldwide success and Marvel’s 6th movie to pull a billion dollars. At 4:43 PST on April 8th, 2019, global box office of the movie is $1.038 billion and rising gradually.
The Cinema Experience…
Now not being a cinema person, I didn’t have many expectations but what I experienced killed much of my desire and excitement. Experiencing the Nueplex DHA branch at “The Place” for the first time was beyond pathetic.
Bookings for “Captain Marvel” opened three days ahead of the release and the moment it happened, I visited the website for online booking but that didn’t work, I’m assuming it must have crashed due to bulk traffic. However, I kept calling for three days but they didn’t even pick up the phone so it was “really disappointing”. And if you look for any complaint desk at the venue, you’re the most ‘farigh’ person on earth! Who needs a desk? Go home baby, chill – that’s how it works!
I would recommend purchasing tickets directly from the counter. Don’t know how other cinemas are dealing with this though!
