Press Release: Sana Mir, Pakistan’s most experienced female cricketer, former national captain, and the skipper of domestic team Zarai Tarakiyati Bank Limited has expressed her delight after winning the second edition of PCB inter-departmental cricket tournament.
Sana led ZTBL defeated State Bank of Pakistan’s team by 17 runs in the final to be the only team to win each women domestic tournament in last ten year. 33-year-old Mir said that to remain the unbeaten team in the country is a great achievement.
“It feels really great to have this kind of streak, which is not something that is very common. I know of some streaks of domestic cricket like New South Wales in Australia but they are very few so it is a huge achievement and credit goes to every single person who has been involved in team ZTBL since its inception in 2009,” Sana said.
She further added that women cricket in Pakistan has improved in last few years with new teams like HEC and SBP coming in, but it is special that team she led – ZTBL – continues to prove the dominance. “We have had some really good oppositions in form of State Bank, Omar Associates and other departmental teams like HEC and PCB XI have been set up. But Alhamdulillah ZTBL has done really great in last ten years,” she highlighted.
The experienced all-rounder also thanked her colleagues, teammates, and coaches for their contribution in ZTBL’s winning streak.
“I want to thank all the coaches who have been involved, all the players who have been involved in this decade long streak. I think it is a huge achievement on part of the ZTBL that we have won every single title in last ten years even though in last moments we have seen injuries, we have seen players going to different departments due to lucrative opportunities in different departments,” Sana said.
“With matches played in different conditions like Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore, so the kind of dominance this team has shown, the character this team has shown, standing up to all the challenges, is commendable,” the skipper concluded.
